2020 Nissan Titan®
Overview
The Nissan Titan is boldly laying claim to the top spot among full-size pickups. Extensively redesigned for 2020, this truck leads the pack in horsepower, torque, and warranty protection (five years or 100,000 miles), while boosting the fun factor. Designed for diverse needs and tastes, the Titan comes in five trims (S, SV, Pro-4X, SL, and the glitzy Platinum Reserve) and two cab sizes (King and the 4-door Crew, offering 38” of backseat legroom). Four-wheel drive is available in all trims. The 2020 Titan also offers expanded safety features, proving that you can indeed have it all: a ride that’s fun, adventurous, and safe.
The Perfect Ride For…
Pickup enthusiasts needing a workhorse that doesn’t quash their sense of play or ignore their need for comfort. The new 9-speed automatic transmission not only means smooth shifting but also results in improved fuel economy: up 22 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg in the city.* That’s impressive for a vehicle boasting the highest horsepower and torque of any comparable pickup. With 400 horsepower under the hood and 413 lb-ft of torque, the Titan handles highway speeds with aplomb, accelerates briskly, and is a match for stump-pulling or trailer-hauling. This workhorse has a maximum towing capacity of 9,370 pounds and a top payload of 1,600 pounds.
Drive and Handling
A 5.6 liter, direct-injected V8 engine powers all the Titan models. The muscular engine and 9-speed transmission translate into an amazingly smooth, quiet, road-hugging ride, with improved acceleration over previous years, especially when gunning from 50 to 70 mph. Equipped with independent, double-wishbone front suspension and multi-leaf rear suspension, the truck nimbly handles everything from congested highways to remote switchbacks.
The 4WD option sacrifices some smoothness but gets you where you’re going even if your route is a rocky dirt track. Your adventure will play out in style and safety with the off-road package, including Bilstein shock absorbers, sport bar, splash guards, electronic locking rear differential, added skid plates, electronic controls to hold the truck to steep inclines and slow its downhill speed. Switching to and from 2WD and 4WD is a breeze with the shift-on-the-fly knob.
Key Features
Safety
For 2020, the Titan has considerably expanded its safety features. Topping the list is the Safety Shield 360, standard in all trims. This sophisticated technology can alert the driver to lane drifting, cross-traffic in the rear, and vehicles entering the blind spot. It can also provide emergency braking to prevent collisions. It can even turn the high beams on or off automatically, depending on lighting conditions and other vehicles on the road. All versions of the Titan come with eight airbags: single-stage and double-stage versions in the front, side-impact airbags, knee airbags, and roof-mounted curtain airbags to protect occupants in both side-impact collisions and roll-overs. Another innovative safety feature, standard in some Titan trims, is intelligent cruise control, which maintains a safe, driver-specified distance from the vehicle in front.
Infotainment
A wealth of useful information is conveniently viewed and accessed via the Titan’s 8-inch high-definition touchscreen, the largest standard display of any comparable pickup. A 9-inch display is available as an option. The touchscreen employs large, user-friendly icons, with both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ accessing a myriad of smartphone capabilities. The display instantly connects the driver with traffic updates, phone contacts, music playlists, etc. For a truly awesome listening experience, consider upgrading to the optional Fender® 12-speaker audio system.
Alternative Options
If you need more interior space, forgo the truck bed and opt for the Nissan Armada. This full-size SUV lives up to its name with a powerful drivetrain and plenty of space for passengers or cargo. For a more nimble ride, take a look at the Nissan Kicks. This compact SUV offers the elevated seating position you need to command the road, with agile handling and extensive technology.
