2020 Nissan Maxima®
SCHEDULE A TEST DRIVE
Overview
Nissan's flagship sedan, the Maxima, received a stunning refresh last year, but the automaker has never been one to settle. For 2020, Nissan has added Nissan Safety Shield 360 standard across all trims, proving that the Maxima prioritizes the things that matter most to modern consumers—safety, performance, style, and comfort. The Maxima tosses in thrilling performance by taking the typical family sedan experience and injecting some much-needed style and excitement. Don’t be fooled by its exquisite exterior, though. Despite its styling cues, the Nissan Maxima is spacious and efficient.
The Perfect Drive for...
Drivers who want all the thrills of a sports car while maintaining all the elements that make a four-door sedan so functional for everyday driving. A modern sports sedan, the 2020 Nissan Maxima comes complete with great looks and impressive moves. It's a four-door, five-seat full-size sedan with five trim levels starting at $34,250.*
Drive & Handling
Nissan’s effort to back up its “four-door sports car” claim begins under the hood. As with the previous generation, the 2020 Maxima is powered by a 3.5-liter V6, producing 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. That’s only 32 fewer horsepower than the 370Z®, Nissan’s formidable sports coupe, and even uses the same VQ engine platform as its less practical cousin.
The Maxima's V6 is harnessed to Nissan’s Xtronic® continuously variable transmission (CVT), with manual shifting and D-Step logic for a crisper, sportier feel. The short logic can detect cornering g-forces and hold a higher RPM for faster corner exits. Like the last few generations of Maxima, the new model is also front-wheel drive, and it achieves EPA-rated fuel economy of 24 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 30 mpg highway).**
To give the Maxima a sportier attitude, Nissan equipped it with a Drive Mode Selector that adjusts throttle response, transmission tuning, and steering feel. It also works with the Active Sound Enhancement system available on certain models. The Maxima SR model adds unique suspension tuning, larger front stabilizer bar, Performance Chassis Damper, paddle shifters, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Key Features
The Future of Technology
As Nissan’s flagship sedan, the 2020 Maxima comes loaded with standard and available technology features to keep you connected on the road. The infotainment center goes above and beyond just playing your favorite music and giving you turn-by-turn directions. Thanks to Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®, you get integration with your compatible smartphone for access to your favorite music apps, navigation, contacts, hands-free text messaging, and more. The interface also helps you find restaurants and keeps you up to date with live traffic and weather alerts.
NissanConnect Services® complement that connectivity, allowing you to integrate Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, which gives you remote access to lock your doors, flash your lights, and start your Maxima just by speaking to your hub. Emergency assistance, trip planning, and safety controls are all more seamlessly integrated than ever before.
Safety
Available driver assistance technology keeps you on the right track. Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection and Rear Automatic Braking can step in before the driver has a chance to react to possible collisions. Intelligent Lane Intervention monitors lane markings and can gently guide you back into your lane. Intelligent Cruise Control not only adapts to the speed you’d like to maintain but can also keep a set distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Blind Spot Monitoring keeps an eye out for you where you may not be able to see. If a car is in your blind spot, you’ll be alerted.
Alternative Options
If you're searching for an SUV that's not too bulky to drive but that also has enough space to make it versatile, look no further than Nissan Rogue®. If you want sporty, refined styling, the latest tech features, and a surprisingly large amount of power for a compact car, the Nissan 370Z® is everything a sports car should be—and more.
