Drive & Handling
The 2019 Versa is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine which achieves 109 horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard on the baseline S model, with an XTRONIC CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission) automatic option, a standard on all other trim levels.
This compact sedan is the answer to anyone looking to save more at the pump. Not only is the powertrain totally focused on returning excellent fuel economy, but the built-in Drive Computer (pictured below) keeps the driver in the know about important telemetry like fuel consumption. The EPA-estimated fuel economy of the five-speed manual is 30 mpg combined (27 mpg city/36 mpg highway), while the efficient CVT automatic stands at an even better 35 mpg combined (31 mpg city/39 mpg highway).3 Those are excellent fuel economy ratings that are sure to please just about any consumer.
