The Making of a Legend

When the first Skyline was introduced in 1957, it was a four-door luxury vehicle with a modest 60 horsepower, under the Prince nameplate. When Prince Motor Company merged with Nissan, all that changed, and the Skyline began to evolve into a performance machine. In 1969, the first Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R was introduced with an inline six engine creating an extra 100 horsepower. This generation of the Skyline solidified the car as a track-dominating machine.

Today, the “Skyline GT-R” name has been shortened to just “GT-R,” and the 0 to 60-mph time has shortened to under three seconds. The evolution of the R-chassis has led to one of the most impressive performance cars that Nissan has ever created. It still dominates race tracks around the world, but Nissan didn’t just create a beautiful track car. The automaker made a beast that can turn ordinary into extraordinary with the push of a button.

Performance

Nissan relied on the inline six-cylinder engine in the Skyline for many years, but for the current generation, the automaker developed the VR38DETT engine. This engine is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces a massive 565 horsepower and 467 pound-feet of torque. For the NISMO®-tuned version of the GT-R, those numbers increase to a face-melting 600 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque. That power is sent to all four wheels for unbelievable grip, traction, and precision on and off the track. Each GT-R engine is assembled by one master craftsman—entirely by hand.

The 6-speed dual-clutch transmission can change gears as quickly as 0.15 seconds in R-Mode, maximizing the amount of time power is being sent to the wheels, resulting in the GT-R's impressive track times. Thanks to the dual-clutch system, the transmission is always ready to select the next gear, almost instantly, and the transmission can rev-match when downshifting for smooth transitions in corners.

Adjusting the transmission, suspension, and Vehicle Dynamic Control system is as simple as flipping a switch for each one. R Mode delivers top-notch performance, and is perfect for track days or spirited driving through a mountain pass. Normal Mode turns the 2019 Nissan GT-R into a refined daily driver. The suspension can be tuned to comfort mode for a silky-smooth ride, the Vehicle Dynamics system can be completely turned off, and the transmission can be put in Save Mode for long drives and gentle torque delivery.

Key Features

Stay Connected

The performance of the GT-R is measurable, thanks to the Multi-Function Display, which proves that this supercar is as advanced as it is powerful. Five programmable and one factory preset screen display important performance information that keeps the driver informed about boost pressure, oil temperature and pressure, throttle position, fuel economy, transmission fluid temperature, and so much more.

In addition to staying connected to your car, the Nissan GT-R has all the modern connectivity features you need for a seamless trip. The Nissan Navigation System is displayed on an 8-inch touchscreen for turn-by-turn directions. Bluetooth® connectivity, Apple CarPlay™,  and two USB ports give you the flexibility to access your smartphone through the GT-R’s infotainment system. Stream your favorite playlists, use your go-to navigation apps and more with compatible smartphones.

Tailored Sound Experience

In other vehicles, road and wind noise can often detract from a driving experience and can muffle the exhilarating sounds of high-speed driving. In the Nissan GT-R, microphones monitor this twin-turbo engine under the hood and employ active noise cancellation to remove any undesirable noise. Active sound enhancement channels that satisfying roar of the engine into the cabin, and exhaust sound control allows the driver to choose how loud the exhaust is outside the vehicle by closing a valve in the available titanium exhaust system. An available 11-speaker Bose® audio system with dual subwoofers mounted between the rear seats uses the trunk as a bass enclosure and delivers jaw-dropping sound quality.

Alternative Options

While the Nissan GT-R is the perfect everyday supercar, maybe you’re looking for something that flies under the radar. The newly updated Nissan Maxima® offers a robust V6 engine, sportscar-like handling, and a ton of standard features. Its aggressive design language echoes that of the GT-R, but with less in-your-face attitude. If you still want a sports car, but don’t need the track-readiness of the GT-R, the 370Z® is the perfect fit. The legendary Z car is nimble and powerful, providing a more refined experience than the more aggressive GT-R.
