2015 Nissan Pathfinder

New for 2015

The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder gets additional new features, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and six new exterior colors.

A New Road Ahead

True to its name, the Nissan Pathfinder forged a path as one of the first modern SUVs. It thrived in an area when off-road ability and truck-like toughness were the defining characteristics of an SUV, and as consumer interests have shifted, the Pathfinder has changed to accommodate them.

The 2015 Pathfinder still offers the high riding position and available four-wheel traction of a traditional SUV, but with an aerodynamic body, car-like ride, and a mommy interior with seating for seven. It’s everything that made past Pathfinders great, and everything a modern crossover utility vehicle needs.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder sports a proven engine and transmission combination that make for a dependable yet efficient midsize crossover.

The first option is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 260 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. This engine is used throughout the Nissan range and has proven to be quite the workhorse in dozens of models, including previous generations of Pathfinder.

In the 2015 model, the V6 is mated to Nissan’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), with D-Step Logic Control for a more engaging driving experience. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional. When properly equipped, the Pathfinder can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

With front-wheel drive, the Pathfinder gets an EPA-rated 23 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway)*. With all-wheel drive, it gets 22 mpg combined (19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway)*, although the all-wheel-drive-only Platinum model loses 1 mpg in the combined category for 21 mpg combined (19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway)*.

Features and Trims

The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder is a five-door seven-seat crossover SUV. It’s available in four trim levels, with prices starting at $29,630**.

Finding your own path starts with the base Pathfinder S. This model comes standard with a 4-inch color display, six cupholders, 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, pushbutton ignition, ti-zone automatic climate control, and cloth seats.

The first step up from the base model is the Pathfinder SV. This model includes all of the applicable standard equipment from the Pathfinder S, as well as smart auto headlights, fog lights, dual power outside mirrors, remote start, Bluetooth, auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

The next model in the lineup is the Pathfinder SL. In addition to the standard features from the previous two models, it includes heated exterior mirrors, chrome body side moldings, power lift gate, digital compass, and heated leather seats.

On top of those standard features, the SL Tech package adds a Bose 13-speaker premium audio system, navigation with voice recognition, Bluetooth Streaming Audio, 8-inch color display, and tow package. The SL Premium package includes the Bose audio system, a Dual Panorama Moonroof, and other features.

The top Pathfinder model is the appropriately-named Platinum. Going Platinum gets you 20-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, cooled front seats, and other equipment.

Exterior/Interior

The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder exterior is both stylish and aerodynamic. The wide chrome grille and muscular fenders give the Pathfinder SUV credentials, while the low belt line makes for an airy cabin. Thanks to front and rear spoilers, rear tire deflectors, and rear suspension fairings, the Pathfinder also achieves a 0.34 coefficient of drag, one of the best in its segment.

Previous-generation Pathfinders were traditional body-on-frame trucks, with a chassis separate from the body. The current model is a much more sophisticated unibody design that saves weight, and also provides a much smoother and more refined ride.

The sophisticated exterior design is matched by an upscale and versatile interior. There’s a total of 173.8 cubic feet of combined passenger and cargo space, which can be reconfigured for any scenario thanks to a 60/40 split-folding second-row bench seat, and a 50/50 split-folding rear bench.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, hill-start assist, and front front-seat mounted side, and roof-mounted curtain airbags. Optional features include Nissan’s AroundView Monitor camera system, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.

Bottom Line

The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder lives up to its well-known name with a combination of practicality and refinement that’s perfect for a 21st century SUV.
