For 2017, the TITAN gets a new Single Cab body style, alongside the previous Crew Cab.
A TITANic Truck
The full-size truck segment is one of the most competitive in the auto industry. Truck buyers know what they want, and Nissan aims to give it to them with the 2017 TITAN (and obviously it's succeeded—the second generation of Nissan’s full-size truck recently received the 2017 Truck Trend Pickup Truck of the Year award). It features a tough ladder frame, powerful V8 engine, and an ergonomic cabin. Depending on how you equip it, the TITAN can be everything from an off-road machine to a luxury car. Performance
The 2017 TITAN is the automaker's answer to full-size trucks like the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra. That means the TITAN is up against some pretty tough competition, but the Nissan model stands out with impressive capability.
The TITAN is offered with an updated version of the 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 used in the previous generation of this truck, along with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The V8 produces 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque and features direct injection for improved efficiency. Nissan says the TITAN can tow up to 9,390 pounds, when properly equipped, and offers a maximum payload capacity of 1,610 pounds.
To make towing a bit easier, Nissan offers available features like an integrated trailer brake controller, trailer sway control, a tow/haul mode, and trailer-light check system. And to help the chassis handle whatever owners throw at it, the TITAN features a fully boxed ladder frame with beefy leaf springs at the back. The Pro-4X off-road model also gets Bilstein® monotube shocks and an electronic locking rear differential is available as well.
The TITAN offers standard rear-wheel drive or optional four-wheel drive. Most models get an EPA-rated 18 mpg combined (15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway)* regardless of how many wheels are driven. The four-wheel drive Pro-4X model is rated at a slightly lower 17 mpg combined (15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway).*

Features
The 2017 Nissan TITAN is a full-size pickup truck available in two-door Single Cab or four-door Crew Cab configurations. Buyers can also choose from five trim levels, with pricing starting from $34,780.**
The base TITAN S comes standard with a 40/20/40 split-folding front bench seat, six cup holders and eight bottle holders, six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth® streaming audio, 5.0-inch display screen, hands-free text messaging, and Nissan ConnectSM with Mobile Apps.
The TITAN SV incorporates the standard features from the TITAN S and adds an overhead console with sunglass holder, off-road indicator and menu, chrome grille, power-adjustable heated exterior mirrors, trailer sway control, interior mood lighting, and more.
The TITAN Pro-4X model is designed specifically for off-road driving, so it includes a higher level of standard equipment than the SV, as well as performance-related features like all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels, Bilstein® off-road shocks, electronic locking rear differential, and a skid plate. Other standard features on the Pro-4X include front captain’s chairs, Nissan ConnectSM infotainment system with navigation and a 7.0-inch display screen, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
The TITAN SL comes standard with leather upholstery, heated front seats, tilt and telescoping steering column, memory system for the seat and steering, 20-inch alloy wheels, LED signature headlights, extra chrome exterior trim, Rockford Fosgate® Premium 12-speaker audio system, Utili-track cargo channel system, spray-in bed liner, and a 110-volt outlet in the bed.
The top-of-the-line Platinum Reserve adds premium leather-appointed seats, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, model-specific 10-inch dark chrome wheels, “Platinum Reserve” exterior badging, open-pore wood instrument panel finishers, two-tone exterior paint, and a dark chrome tailgate finisher.
Design
The 2017 Nissan TITAN features an aggressive exterior design with a bold grille that announces this truck’s presence to everyone else on the road. But despite the blunt front end, Nissan managed to create a 10-percent improvement in aerodynamic efficiency over the previous-generation TITAN by using a front spoiler, roof and tailgate spoilers, front tow hole cover, underbody covers, rear tire wind deflectors, a seal between the cab and bed, and active grille shutters.
While the exterior is all truck, the interior borrows heavily from the automaker's car lineup. The design of the steering wheel and dashboard will look familiar to the owner of, say, an Altima or Rogue. The TITAN also features the same NASA-inspired “Zero Gravity” seats used in other Nissan models, which help enhance posture for more comfort while driving. The TITAN also offers a vast array of interior trim options, from the base S model’s vinyl seats to the high-end wood trim on the Platinum Reserve.
Safety
Standard safety equipment on the 2017 Nissan TITAN includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, and a full array of airbags. Optional features include blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, rearview camera, and Around View Monitor 360-degree camera system.
Verdict
The 2017 Nissan TITAN is a worthy alternative to full-size pickup trucks from the Detroit Three and Toyota.
